The Cognitive Development Laboratory in the Psychology Department at Carnegie Mellon University is looking for a full-time Research Assistant (RA). You will work on an NSF-funded project examining experience-driven changes in semantic knowledge. This is a full-time one-year position with benefits and possible extension for two years. The start date is January 2020.
The selected candidate will work closely with Dr. Anna Fisher and Dr. Catarina Vales in designing and implementing new studies, reviewing the literature, testing children, coding data, and analyzing and presenting research results. The candidate will be part of a highly collaborative scientific environment with many opportunities for growth and learning, and will have access to exceptional resources at Carnegie Mellon University. This position is ideally suited for a recent graduate who wants research experience in developmental science prior to applying to graduate school.
We are looking for someone with excellent organization and communication skills, who is self-directed, and works well with others. Familiarity with basic computer skills is required, as is a willingness to learn new tech skills (e.g., new software; programming). Prior experience in a research environment in psychology, cognitive science, or related fields with human subjects is also required.
Desirable skills include:
prior experience collecting data from children younger than 7;
familiarity with photo/video editing and/or eye tracking software;
experience with statistical analysis & software (e.g., R, SPSS);
programming skills (e.g., MATLAB, Python).
