The Adolescent IOP provides an integrated and evidence-based treatment process for adolescents who have a diagnosis of a mental illness and their caregivers. The treatment process focuses on understanding mental health disorders and how they impact self, family, and others. The program also helps adolescents and caregivers learn and practice coping strategies as part of education and treatment.
Program criteria:
Ages 13-18 and in high school (age 12 following a review of circumstances)
Have a DSM-5 diagnosis of a mental illness
Are not in imminent danger to self or others
Are not in need of 24 hour monitoring or treatment
Are medically stable
Have the ability to understand the treatment concepts
Have the ability to participate in groups
Have needs that require a higher level of care than traditional outpatient services
Clinical program:
The Adolescent IOP is a program that provides a structured curriculum including cognitive-behavioral and behavioral psychoeducation and therapy for both youth and caregivers. Wellness psychoeducation groups are provided daily to patients and include art, yoga, and general health education. The program offers mental health assessment and treatment provided by psychiatrists, clinical social workers, and marriage and family therapists, along with other mental health professionals. Medication management is provided during the treatment, and treatment planning includes after-care planning and referrals for ongoing care.
The program is located on the Riverside campus of the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Riverside 4B, West Building, 2450 Riverside Ave., Minneapolis. Program hours are 3:15-6:30 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
Responsibilities/Job Description
Responsible for conducting diagnostic assessments, determines clinical interventions, facilitates therapy and provides education for patients and their families. Facilitates treatment planning and manages case.
Responsible for develpment of transition/discharge plan
Communicates effectively and respectfully with others, including interdisciplinary team and all other contacts
Functions as an interdisciplinary team member
Devlops treatment plan, documentation of client services and care
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
LICSW, LP, LPCC or LMFT licensure
2 years supervised therapy experience in mental health including assessment, individual, group and family therapy.
Experience providing counseling to adolescent population
