The Psychologist will contribute to the overall clinical operation of the behavioral health department and the daily care of the outpatient population in primary care. To function as a member of the clinical team through collaboration, providing consultation, assessment, treatment and behavioral health education. To provide collaboration with and a conduit to Behavioral Health and support an integrated model of health care.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to provide psychological care appropriate for the Primary Care population. This requires the ability to conduct assessments, obtain and interpret information, to identify age and culturally specific patient needs, and to provide the care needed.
Demonstrates the ability to function in a consult and liaison role for the Primary Care department meeting the acute needs of patients and providing outpatient psychotherapy as appropriate.
Coordinates transition of care to community setting as necessary; maintains knowledge of resources including community providers and support organizations appropriate for the patient population served
Demonstrates the ability to provide highly skilled behavioral health consultation to the clinical team
Collaborates with interdisciplinary team and community partners as appropriate
Develops group support and therapy activity as appropriate for the specific Primary Care population, and as needed within the Christiana Care Health System
Contributes to the development of staff by providing consultation, education and suggesting best practice alternatives as appropriate.
Maintains connection and consultation with the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health
Completes mandatory CCHS education and maintain certification in area of specialty.
Demonstrates knowledge of patient's rights and maintains confidentiality of departmental and patient information.
Actively involved in identifying opportunities and implementing strategies to improve performance that impact the patient population.
Identifies service gaps pertaining to patients' psychosocial needs and plans programs that address the psychosocial needs of patients.
Implements programs effectively and evaluates effectiveness of programs, making modifications as needed.
Assesses learning needs of patients and families and carries out treatment as indicated.
Attends and participates in collaborative, interdisciplinary rounds.
Responds to staff requests for information/guidance; provides staff education
Develops and provides patient education as appropriate.
Provides system-wide presentations as applicable
Weekly attendance of BHC meetings
Expected to attend face to face or virtual meetings with staff at locations served for networking and problem-solving purposes when appropriate
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of behavioral health principles including assessment, treatment, diagnosis, consultation and terminology
Knowledge and ability to conduct brief consultative and formal therapies
Ability to utilize effective listening skills and remain empathetic and developing strong working alliances
Ability to procure, clarify, and interpret information on verbal and non-verbal levels
Ability to effectively diffuse conflict and crisis
Ability to work comfortably in groups and milieu.
Knowledge and ability to facilitate a positive, caring, and supportive atmosphere for positive change in all patients.
Ability to set patient goals
Ability to address and prioritize multiple tasks and assignments
Skill in written and oral communication
Knowledge of patients' rights, ethics, and legal issues
DIRECTION/SUPERVISION OF OTHERS: The Psychologist may oversee the training of graduate students, post-doctoral interns and other professional staff as appropriate.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Licensed Psychologist required
Licensed or License Eligible within 30 days
Minimum one year of experience providing direct therapeutic care
