Functioning as a member of the health care team, the Music Therapist - Board Certified (MT-BC) is responsible for supporting children, teens and family members in the health care setting by developing, coordinating, and conducting comprehensive music therapy interventions and programs. The MT-BC possesses advanced clinical training to provide evidence-based music therapy interventions for patients and families. This position will collaborate with interdisciplinary staff to provide comprehensive care to Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt pediatric patients, as well as to support programs where music would be an integral part of the service delivery for patient care. Additional administrative responsibilities include program development, strategic planning, special event coordinating and supporting the supervision of Music Therapy student program. Additional responsibilities will include training and educating other staff, students and volunteers, as well as representing Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt in hospital wide committees and initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Create and implement music therapy interventions for patients with diverse age and demographic backgrounds in the inpatient settings; Integrate current research and evidence based pediatric medical music therapy techniques
Understand and apply the principles of child development, trauma informed care and the impact of healthcare experiences on child development
Assess and prioritize those interventions with patients as well as caregivers of the patient
Assess and prioritize child/family needs for music therapy intervention
Evaluate emotional, psychosocial, cognitive and physical condition of referred patients utilizing therapeutic assessments and interventions
Plan, implement, evaluate and modify patient treatment programs and activities
Provide opportunities for and facilitate a variety of group and individual music therapy interventions which promote positive coping, development, self-expression and mastery
Provide music therapy interventions and collaborate as a member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team, integrating consults, goals and plans to promote optimal patient care that is family-centered, developmentally appropriate, and psychosocially sound
Maintain equipment and supplies
Plan and implement additional Child Life activities e.g., special events, patient/family workshops
Interface with donors, community groups and others vital to the continued growth of Patient and Family Centered Care and Music Therapy programs and visions
Orient and supervise music therapy interns, practicum students, and volunteers
Provide education and in-service training regarding music therapy services to patients, families, medical staff and students and interdisciplinary teams
Participate in professional development to enhance job performance and contribute to the accomplishment of the mission and goals of the Music Therapy team, Patient and Family Centered Care department and hospital

Strong interpersonal communication and listening skills; Ability to resolve interpersonal conflict in a professional and effective manner
Participate and engage in patient and family centered care, departmental initiatives, committees, and work groups
