Patient Safety Supervisor -VCH

Your role:

The Patient Safety Team Supervisor will complete the two-week didactic training program offered to all Patient Safety Team members along with the VUMC Leader Essential education series.

Department Summary

The VCH Patient Safety Team at MCJCHV was created to provide mental health support throughout multiple areas of the hospital. This includes the Pediatric Surgical, Trauma, and Adolescent Medicine unit (PSTAM) on the 8^th floor, the Pediatric Medicine Acute Care unit (PMAC) on the 6^th & 7^th floors, and the Pediatric Emergency Department (PED) on the 1^st floor, the Pediatric Hematology & Oncology unit (PHO) on the 6^th floor, the Pediatric Cardiology unit (PCARD) on the 7^th floor, or the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) on the 5^th floor. Members of the Patient Safety Team are also trained in the Care Partner Role to provide clinical support and to assist with activities of daily living and vital signs.

Key Responsibilities

Create daily staff assignments and assess the need to change assignments based upon patient need. Round on staff providing 1:1 observation to patients with behavioral health needs throughout the shift to provide support and coaching. Complete audits to ensure consistency in following patient safety protocols and appropriate chart documentation. Assist with de-escalating patients. Develop safety plans for patients with high acuity. Maintain accurate recordkeeping regarding staff attendance and punctuality. Participate in scheduled meetings. Collaborate with nursing staff and providers in ensuring patient/staff needs are met.
