SUBFUNCTION DEFINITION: To coordinate the triage and referral of infants, children and adolescents into appropriate psychiatric, developmental disabilities or other services within a complex medical center and related services/agencies dedicated to the care of infants, adolescents and children.
REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
Patient Care
2 Consultant role across units for patients failing to respond to milieu interventions whose symptoms are severe in duration, intensity, and ingrained in trauma. Conducts comprehensive functional behavior assessments (FBA) which require dedicated time, expertise and supervision to complete individual plans. Attends round, works with interdisciplinary teams in treatment planning; develops behavior plans for more acute patients, maintains monitoring of progress r/t goals; coaches, mentors staff in plan delivery. Develops, organizes and maintains Length of Stay Program for patients exceeding 14 days admission. Collects, analyzes data, makes decisions regarding care, includes initial screening, behavioral assessment, reassessment and care discontinuation. Residential; Supports community reintegration of select patients. Attends clinical supervision with psychologists, provide staff training in milieu management and program; supports DBT sessions. Trains staff in behavioral techniques in milieu and runs behavior plans, token economy, CARES. May require rounds on pre-identified patients with behavioral concerns; works with interdisciplinary teams to plan for behavioral management and safety; responds to crisis codes, collaboratively creates plans to manage behaviors to inpatient/ambulatory medical safety.
Family Education
Communicates clear parental attitudes and behaviors that affect treatment. Facilitate problem solving of behavioral-medical treatment options. Provide intensive individualized care per request. Participate in team staffing of children and case reviews as they occur. Provide for the exchange of appropriate patient care, trauma informed care and clinical information when patients are admitted, referred, transferred or discharged Function as a member of the inpatient units to provide support and input regarding parental issues or child characteristics that influence the treatment of the child; attends family meetings & provides individual education in regards to behavior management recommendations. Initiates/key role in case conferences. May require to seek parent interactions during visiting, provides coaching to families on engaging in leisure activities and discussions regarding family expectations; provides parent and staff education regarding behavioral interventions and safety plans; demonstrates leadership to staff in working with diverse families by providing support to families and co-workers. Consistently integrates age specific and culturally diverse concepts into patient care, considering both the patient's chronological age and developmental functioning.
Behavioral Assessment
2 Function as a member of the behavioral intervention program to assess behavioral function and implement behavioral and educational protocols. Lead the implementation of behavior assessment protocols as designed by psychology staff. Anticipate, utilize data to make adjustments, evaluating and inform treatment planning. Collect and analyze date to address progress through treatment where adjustments may be needed to communicate back to the team for analysis. Provide insight into antecedent events and consequences that may affect behavioral treatment. Implement intensive individualized behavior and education intervention plans as prescribed and provide input regarding modification of treatment plans. Utilize safe management and crisis intervention techniques as appropriate. Assist in case presentation and problem-solving of behavioral-medical treatment options. Provides leadership for evidence based or I2S2 project with goal to improve patient outcomes. May require to provide staff training on behavior plans and use of supports for patients such as visual aids, token economy system, and PECS.
Clinical Expertise
Established expert in agreed upon areas that will assist units to achieve optimal patient outcomes, in regards to behavioral safety; organize and lead care conferences to address difficult or long term patient care issues; is recognized as a house wide resource for clinical practice and operational systems. Identifies behaviors that require nursing assessment for PRN medication; educates new staff on above. Special task force involvement and Individual consultations in regards to medical and behavioral safety equipment.
Family Education

Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Required:
Masters degree in applied behavioral analysis/field of behavior or BCBA certification
2 - 5 years of work experience in a related job discipline
