You Will Be Responsible For:
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to perform patient assessments/interventions by identifying, physical, psychosocial and developmental needs and adapting interventions accordingly
The Chaplainâ™s role will be in the areas of comforter, liturgist, witness, resource person, and counselor with the specific intent to help others, through words, acts, and relationships, to experience as fully as possible the reality of Godâ™s presence and love in their lives
Maintains an ecumenical spirit within the hospital and sense of hospitality for people of all faiths
Establishes positive working relationship within the hospital among all members of the health care, patients, and families
Respects patient privacy, confidentiality and dignity.
Maintains open communication with area clergy (with the patientâ™s permission) concerning the needs of their parishioner
Creates positive image by demonstrating a professional manner in all encounters
Communicates with courtesy when interacting with internal or external customers, in person, electronically or on the telephone.
Chaplain will provide ministry of presence for patients and/or families in times of crises as a witness of Godâ™s love and concern
Assists patients and families to cope with fears and anxieties resulting from illness.
Administers the Sacraments to patients upon request â“referring to appropriate clergy as needed
Assists patients facing death
Comforts patientâ™s family and friends at the time of illness or death.
Demonstrates evidence of continuous professional development byâ
Identifying own learning needs, and seeking opportunities for self-growth and career advancement
Attending annual mandatory in-services and required meetings and continuing education
Communicates all problem or potential problems and concerns related to confidentiality to the supervising Chaplain
The Chaplain shall also respond on an on-call basis to immediate and emergency medical crises as they happen and the attending hospital staff deem the need for pastoral care/support
Prioritizes the multi-patient task-list on Cerner for daily patient consults
Per diem scheduling as determined by the manager of the supervising Chaplain
Available for week night and weekend call
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested
Fulfills commitments to accomplish department goals
Prioritizes work effectively and manages time well
Assist in managing volunteer chaplain team
Visit and chart patients as directed by supervising chaplain
Qualifications
What You Will Need:
Knowledge of the Bible
Ability to listen to people from different backgrounds without imposing own agenda
Basic computer understanding
Public speaking ability preferred
Comfortable with computer charting preferred
Minimum of one year experience as a team member in an ecumenical setting OR Completed 2 or more units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) OR College degree in religion.
Bachelors of Divinity, Theology or Religion preferred
Ministerial credentials from a church or denomination
Certificate of completion of most recent CPE units.
Proof of completion or continuing education towards an undergraduate or graduate degree in religion or theology
CPE completion preferred
MDiv degree preferred
Job Summary:
The PRN Chaplain assists the lead chaplain and the resident chaplain in performing the duties of the Pastoral Care department. These include patient visitation, being on call, managing the volunteer visitation team, and participating in the spiritual events of the hospital. The Chaplain is a member of the health care team who provides for the pastoral needs of patients, families, and staff.Through professional training in the areas of theology, spirituality, worship, and counseling, assists patients to understand more fully lifeâ™s events as they relate to their spiritual and emotional well-being.
